  1. 1891-1974. British physicist. In 1932 he
  2. discovered the particle in the nucleus of an
  3. atom that became known as the neutron because
  4. it has no electric charge. He was awarded a
  5. Nobel prize 1935. Chadwick studied at
  6. Cambridge under Ernest Rutherford. He was
  7. Lyon Jones professor of physics at Liverpool
  8. 1935-48, and master of Gonville and Caius
  9. College, Cambridge 1948-59. In 1940 he was
  10. one of the British scientists reporting on
  11. the atom bomb.
